5th Grade:
ELA - (Duphily, Corrado, McIntyre)
Students continue to explore Human Rights by examining the way the characters’ rights are threatened in Esperanza Rising. Work has also begun on using main ideas to create concise summaries and we continue to build background with nonfiction reading and vocabulary work.
Math/Science - (Nenninger, Carroll, Olson) - Students are finding the volume of rectangular prisms and incorporating expressions into their math thinking as well.
Science - (Nenninger, Carroll, Olson) beginning a unit on Earth Systems which entails making observation of patterns in the night sky.

Science - (Eident) We continued our exploration into bees and their roles as pollinators. We dissected bees and examined their parts to understand the functions they are used for in sensing and communicating.
Math - (Wininger and Martorelli) We have started our geometry unit where we are calculating the areas of parallelograms and triangles.
ELA- (Russo & Milton) It has been a busy week of reading, thinking, and exploring in Grade 6! In English Language Arts, students continued reading The Lightning Thief, focusing on point of view and context clues as we worked through Chapter 2. Students practiced looking closely at the text, using surrounding words and details to determine the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary, while also thinking about how the narrator’s point of view shapes the way we experience the story.
Social Studies - (Milton) We traveled along the Silk Road! Students explored ancient trade routes using maps and learned how the Silk Road connected different regions, empires, and cultures. We looked at what was traded, who traveled the routes, and why these connections were important. Students also considered how trade involved more than goods—ideas, technologies, beliefs, and cultures traveled along these routes as well. It has been wonderful to see students making connections between geography, trade, and the people who shaped the ancient world!
7th Grade: Reminder - Camp Hazen Forms/Payment Due September 16th!
Math - (Dellasala) We are continuing to work on scale factor, moving into how it applies to things like maps and scale models.
Science - (Duda) Students have been exploring atoms and ions. We are beginning to explore isotopes and then make analogies between atoms and donuts!!
Social Studies - (Bloom) Students just took their first quiz on Chp. 3 Lesson 1. We are now learning about how early people discovered agriculture and the positives and negatives that come with that.
English - (Delgrosso) Students have been engaged with pre-reading activities for their first module, focusing on the lost children of Sudan. This week will end with students beginning to read the first chapter in the book, A Long Walk to Water.
Spanish - (Recine) All students will have their first vocabulary quiz next week. I have resources on Google Classroom so please study with your child.
8th Grade: (Diamantis, Gilbert, Horan, Weinberger, Woods)
Now that the school year is underway and grades are being entered we wanted to share a few helpful reminders. Early in the quarter the limited assignments in PowerSchool can make grades fluctuate greatly. Teachers may use zeros as place holders for missing assignments and teachers have up to two weeks to enter new grades. We would like to get students in the habit of advocating for themselves, so please encourage them to talk to their teachers if they have questions. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in supporting your child.
