Counseling Services at Eliot

The School Counseling Department provides comprehensive support to ensure students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally throughout their middle school years.  If you have specific questions or concerns regarding counseling services and support, please contact the School Office to be connected to a School Counselor.

  • One-on-one meetings, counselors assist students in troubleshooting academic difficulties, whether they involve time management, study strategies, or personal issues impacting performance. They connect students with resources, such as tutoring programs, while also facilitating problem-solving discussions to empower students in overcoming obstacles. By fostering a supportive environment, the counselors encourage students to develop resilience and proactive approaches to their academic journeys, ultimately paving the way for their success.

    Peer Tutoring is a long standing and frequently used voluntary program for students at Eliot.  5th and 6th grade students are paired with 7th and 8th graders.  7th and 8th grade students are paired with Morgan students.  This program runs a couple of days a week during the WIN period. This allows students to receive help with homework while also making a connection with an older student in the school community.  If your child would like to be a tutor or receive tutoring, please contact their school counselor. Students also have an opportunity to sign up during their Minute Meeting with their school counselor.

  • Middle school is a time of change for students in many different ways.  The school counselors support students through classroom lessons, one on one meetings and small groups to support their needs as a class, friend group or individual.  If there is anything you or your child would like to discuss, we are here and ready to help.  Please reach out to us anytime.

  • Career development starts off very broadly with conversations and activities intended to get students thinking about categories of careers, and how they see careers supporting their everyday lives.  As we move to 8th grade, career development gets more specific to individual interests, as we want them to start considering their future options with high school and elective classes.

  • We are the 504 case managers for our assigned grade levels.  If your child currently has a 504 plan and you have any questions, or if you think your child may qualify for a 504 plan, please reach out to us.

  • We coordinate transition activities for the incoming 5th grader and the outgoing 8th graders every year.

    • Incoming 5th graders are welcomed to Eliot at the end of their 4th grade year with a tour and Q & A session with current students. This is during the normal school day and students walk to Eliot from Joel with their teachers
    • We host Husky Training Camp for our incoming 5th graders in mid-August, prior to the start of school.  Students receive their schedule and do a number of fun activities with a handful of staff and students to help ensure a smooth transition on their first day of school.
    • Our outgoing 8th graders take a tour of Morgan and get to meet current Morgan students and school counselors.  There is an open house at Morgan for families to attend and learn about classes, meet teachers, and ask questions. Students are strongly encouraged to attend STEP in August.  This is a great transition event to support a smooth transition to high school. 

  • If you are interested in enrolling your child at Eliot Middle School, please reach out to our main office for more information.  Once you have started the enrollment process, we can offer you a tour of the school and meet with you and your child to discuss classes and options to help with the transition to a new school.
